Cycling UK has published a Ride Leader Toolkit with guidance on how to lead a ride. Since this information can be hard to find on their website, Patrick has helpfully created a Forum post that may be useful.
Cycling UK’s Ride Leader Standards Handbook
Cycling UK offer a free, online training course for ride leaders. To register to get access to the training, contact our Rides Secretary.
Leaders need to be aware of the risks involved when planning rides. Our Generic Risk Assessment document provides a useful checklist. Any accidents or incidents occurring on a Wednesday Wheelers ride should be recorded as soon as possible using Cycling UK’s online Incident Report Form.
For planning routes on icy days, maps of the routes scheduled to be gritted by the respective Councils for York, North Yorkshire and the East Riding.
At times of flooding, information on road closures is published by North Yorkshire and East Riding (click “Alerts”) Councils. York provides a more generic flood information page.
